Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said BNP has been continuing the politics of killing and terrorism since its inception.
“BNP did evil politics not only in 1994 but also the party had drenched the soil of Bangla with bloods of 21,000 leaders and workers of Awami League after coming to power in 2001,” he told a discussion marking ‘seven-murder day’ at Azimpur in the city.
Quader joined the discussion, arranged by Dhaka City South unit of AL, from his official residence on parliament premises.
He said through the gruesome grenade attacks on AL rally on August 21, 2004, BNP continued its politics of killing.

The minister said now BNP is out to incite the extreme communal forces to launch attacks on the backbone of Bangladesh. But they will not be successful as the people remain prepared to resist the communal forces in the country, he added.

The AL general secretary said BNP completely failed to create anarchy in the country centering the sculpture issue as the people have risen up with the spirit of the Liberation War.

Turning to municipality polls, Quader said BNP faced miserable defeats in the municipality polls as the people have boycotted evil politics of that party.

On the other hand, the landslide victory of AL candidates is the revelation of people’s trust and confidence in the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said.

Quader said BNP has chosen the path of violence after failing in movement and elections.

The people do not trust BNP anymore because of their evil politics in the previous time, he added.

The AL general secretary said after failing in polls, BNP wanted to make the election system questionable.

Even now, BNP is complaining against the polls in those areas where their candidates have been defeated, he said.

He said in polls win or defeat is must but BNP cannot accept defeat.
Recalling the incident of seven-murder in 1994, he said BNP’s defeated councilor candidate Abdul Aziz had carried out armed attacks to take revenge of defeat in the Dhaka City Corporation elections on this day in 1994.

The soil of Lalbagh was drenched with the blood of seven leaders of AL in the ghastly attack on this day and the joy of win had turned into grief, he recalled.

Turning to own party politics, Quader gave directives to hold councils of ward and thana units under Dhaka city AL to form new committees.
