BSCL is ready to provide technical support to fixing TRP: Hasan
  Date : 29-03-2024

Staff Correspondent: Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Monday said Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) is ready to provide technical support to fixing TRP (Target Rating Point) and to get clean feed of foreign channel.
“One or two private organizations in our country told that they are collecting huge samples while fixing TRP. But, Bangabandhu Satellite Company has informed that they (private organizations) only collected 164 samples and give TRP, which is not totally acceptable,” he said.
The minister made the comments while briefing newsmen at BSCL after visiting the monitoring cell of the company at Nazrul Islam Avenue in city’s Bangla Motor area.
BSCL chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmud, director Professor Dr Sajjad
Hossain, additional secretary of the information ministry Md
Mizan-Ul-Alam and officials of the organization were present there.

Hasan said the real picture can only be obtained by working with at
least 10,000 samples in the perspective of the population of
Bangladesh, otherwise it will not be apprehended. In India, 70,000 to
80,000 samples are collected continuously and, after that, TRP is
given accordingly, he added.

He said the TRP, in India, is fixing by a number of affiliates
through an organization under the government.

The minister said, “We are trying to bring transparency in the way
of giving TRP which is being fixed in unscientific and psychedelic way
in our country now. For this, a committee has already been formed and
the committee has held some meetings also. We will reach a solution
soon and the Bangabandhu Satellite Company is ready to give full
technical support to this end.”

He said it is really great news that the company is ready to provide
technical support as how to collect 10,000 samples continuously. “So
that, we hope that we will reach a solution to this end soon,” said
Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

About implementation of clean feed of foreign channel, the minister
said, “You all know that the foreign channel, as per the law of our
country, could not show any types of advertisement. We have stopped of
screening Bangladeshi advertisements through foreign channel. But
advertisements of foreign products are still being screened. But, the
law does not approve this. Work is going on this issue.”

He said the BSCL has informed that they will create clean feed if
needed though it is their responsibilities who take the license.

The information minister said it is the responsibility of those
concerned channels who take license to take steps of airing after
clean feed according the law of the country (Bangladesh).

He said not only the television industry, the whole media including
the newspaper will be benefited if the all foreign channels will be
screened with clean feed according to the law.

He said the all satellite channels of Bangladesh are using
Bangabandhu Satellite instead of using foreign satellite slot and it
is the matter pride that ‘we have own satellite’.

The minister said the flag of independent Bangladesh is flying in
water, land and space after launching the Bangabandhu Satellite under
the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The satellite is also ready to provide telemedicine, tele-education,
internet service and the development of mass media.

Replying to a query about salaries and allowances of journalists,
Hasan said the televisions are now in better position than before as
the government has taken some measures.

“For this, I would like to urge all concerned to pay salaries and
other allowances of journalists in due time. Besides, we hope that the
mass media employee act will be taken to the parliament soon. Legal
protection will be ensured if the act turns into law,” the minister
added.
