The Virtual World: Possibilities and Fears
  Date : 29-03-2024

Alhaj Md. Abu Yusuf: In the last episode we discuss that because of the addiction to the internet or social media, many people find it more interesting to spend time on social media than to spend time in the family.

Due to these reasons, in many cases, there is tension between husband and wife. Even the worldly problems that could have been solved easily have become more complicated due to the addiction to the Internet. Even today we will discuss the impact of the Internet and the virtual world on the family. Hopefully you are with us in the end.

Usually everything has positive and negative aspects. In the beginning the purpose of using the internet was not bad either. But now it has become a cause of loss due to overuse. We have said in previous programs that we are never against using the internet. However, there must be a limit to the use. That must be complied with. Must be used in the right way, were will be a fixed time, so that the Internet cannot be shared at the scheduled time for family members. We must remember that family is the foundation of a society. The role and activities of each family directly or indirectly affect the whole society. As a result, if the society is to survive, the family structure must be maintained. If you want to build a healthy society, you have to build a healthy family. But sociologists now see the Internet and the virtual world as one of the main obstacles to building a healthy family.

The Internet and social media, they say, also influence a family`s relationships with themselves and their relationships with the outside world. The Internet and the virtual world are completely changing the way relationships exist in the family and society. Sociologists have repeatedly said that in order for a society to survive, it must maintain a healthy culture and have a proper plan in place. This is because over-reliance on the Internet has resulted in cultural degradation in the family and society. The mindset of many to embrace Islamic culture and values is weakening. The reason is that foreign cultures are easily penetrated through the internet and the virtual world. As a result, young people are suffering more. Because before the family and society can be properly understood, they are entering an uncontrolled world because of the Internet, where no boundaries have been drawn between good and evil. The influence of Western culture on the virtual world or the Internet is causing damage to Muslim culture.

Children are at greater risk as mobile internet use increases. Many a times children are unknowingly connected to the internet by pressing the button of their mobile and pictures and scenes that are unsuitable for children are floating in front of them. They are watching all the obscene scenes that would not have occurred to them before they became adults without being connected to the internet. In this case, adults have many responsibilities in the family. Even if children and adolescents use the internet, adults must have control over it. If necessary, filtering should be arranged so that no pictures, scenes and writings unsuitable for children and adolescents are displayed in front of them. Not only are those children in many countries like Bangladesh being attracted to militancy through internet. Children and adolescents are being drawn towards violence by misinterpreting Islam, the religion of peace. This is hindering the normal growth of a child. Being misled before gaining adequate knowledge about life and society.

Being active all the time in the internet or virtual world, many people are spending time behind it waking up at night. This is a waste of time for rest and sleep. This is having an effect on the body-mind and family. Not only that, due to lack of space and time limitations, many people are sitting at home doing office work, running business. Many are busy with office work while going home as well as office. While there are many good aspects to this, ultimately the time allotted for the family is declining. In this way, family members miss out on opportunities to communicate and converse. When a family parent spends time in other ways without giving enough time to the family, it becomes very difficult for other family members. A kind of frustration works in them.

In many cases frustration leads to resentment and a loss of attraction and loyalty to the family`s guardian. And once such a trend starts, it gradually increases and sometimes the family breaks up. The family is the safest and most secure place to find peace of mind. It is not right to ruin this field of peace of mind in any way. That is why we all need to be vocal in protecting our families. The family has to give time. We have to sit together and talk, we have to share happiness, peace and sorrow. The future of the children will be beautiful and happy if they are busy with the family instead of being busy with the virtual world for no reason.
