Pvt jute mill workers threaten to stall traffic over pending wages
  Date : 19-03-2024

Online Desk : Workers of private jute mills in Khulna have threatened to block roads and train tracks on Thursday if their six demands, including payment of dues, aren`t met by factory owners by Wednesday.

Sheikh Amzad Hossain, president of Private Jute Mill Workers and Employees Federation, made the announcement after a meeting with the workers on Tuesday, reports UNB.

Amzad Hossain said blocking roads and rail tracks in the district would be a part of their agitation. "We will go ahead with the protest if we don`t get any written assurance from the mill owners on our demands by Wednesday."

He also threatened a larger protest, "a decision which will be taken after a meeting with CBA and non-CBA leaders, slated for February 26".

The demands include payment of their dues, reopening of the closed jute mills and halt to retrenchment of workers.

The private jute mill workers have been staging protests for the past three months in favour of their demands.
