Online Desk: Today (Saturday, March 7) is the eighth death anniversary of Abdul Jalil, one of the organizers of the liberation war and former general secretary of Awami League. He died on March 8, 2013 in a Bangkok hospital.
On this occasion, a day-long program has been taken up in Naogaon on Saturday (March 7). Doa mahfil, luncheon will be organized at the home of the deceased and the grave of the late leader will be visited. His son Barrister Nizam Uddin Jalil John gave this information.
Besides, Abdul Jalil Foundation of Naogaon has undertaken a separate program. A black batch, wreath-laying and Fatiha recitation at the tomb of the late leader, mourning rallies, blood donation programs and prayers for the forgiveness of the departed soul have been organized at the Central Jame Mosque after Asr.
Abdul Jalil was born on 21 January 1939 in the Chakpran mahalla of Naogaon to an aristocratic Muslim family. In the first general election of independent Bangladesh in 1973, he was elected MP from Naogaon Sadar constituency. Abdul Jalil was twice elected joint secretary of the central committee of the Awami League, a member of the presidium in 1996, and general secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League in 2002. In 2000, he became the Minister of Commerce. Most recently, he served on the Awami League`s Advisory Council.
