Golam Mostafa from Tarash: The dream of a farmer in Sirajganj has been shattered. Their boro paddy fields were washed away by the Kalavaishakhi storm on Sunday evening. Due to this they fear crop failure.
Farmers Shahalam, Azam Ali and Faruk Hossain said that the paddy has just grown. There is still no rice from the milk of the cows. At a crucial time when the stalks are mature, all the rice of the Miniket variety is completely lost in the wind. In this condition most of the rice husk will become sticky. Moreover, the lower stalks of the fallen paddy will be submerged in water and will rot in the sweltering heat. Due to these reasons, there will be less than four to five manas of paddy per bigha of land.
According to the Upazila Agriculture Department, Miniket variety of paddy has been planted in 3,000 hectares of land during the boro season this year.
On Monday morning, it was seen that the paddy of Miniket variety in the fields of Asanbari, Binsara, Penguari and Kazipur mouzas of the upazila has been looted. There are 36 varieties of paddy in some lands.
In this context, Upazila Agriculture Officer Lutfunnahar Luna said, there is a possibility of straightening the looted paddy again. Otherwise there may be a crop failure.
