Fear of mango production due to lack of rain in Chapainawabganj
  Date : 19-04-2024

Faysal Azam Apu, Chapainawabganj: What will happen to the mango capital Chapainawabganj this year? The mango orchard owners and growers of the district are making all out efforts with such fears. Last year, mango orchard owners and growers thought more about mangoes because of corona. However, due to low production of mango last year, there was no problem in marketing it. Although the prices of some varieties of mangoes are good, most of the Fazli and Ashwina mangoes are spoiled due to heavy rains. As a result, whatever happened happened on the foreheads of the unfortunate mango farmers. Now what will happen to the mango in the district? There are always 6/7 important issues and questions behind it. Such as Miz insect attack, Hopper attack due to fog, heatstroke, storm, hailstorm, untimely floods in other areas, heavy rains, a few years ago false accusations of mixing formalin with mangoes, hundreds of trucks were dumped on mango roads and market prices were low for various reasons. Seeing 95 percent buds on the trees, the mango growers are overwhelmed with hope and their eyes are full of hope. But three weeks ago, when the sky was cloudy for three or four days, the juice could not dry out and the fungus settled down and then 50 percent of the pods started drying in the sun. This time the agriculture department talked about bumper yield but none of the mango growers and gardeners agreed with bumper yield. No match can be found. Now what will happen to that mango? Among the 6/7 important issues in the background and whether the mango production will be as high as due to moderate heat, the mango growers and garden owners have been in extreme fear for a few days. Irrigation is going on day and night in the gardens to save the mangoes from falling. This is also increasing the cost of production. Many are unable to irrigate due to lack of capital, many are looking at the sky in the hope of rain. It takes two to three times more time to irrigate the salo machine as the water level goes down. Due to drought and heat, young mangoes are falling. Nazrul Islam, deputy director of Chapainawabganj Agriculture Extension Department, said the target for mango production in the district is 34,638 hectares this time. The target is 2.5 lakh metric tonnes. Shibganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Shariful Islam said that those concerned are concerned about the loss. No. There is a proverb that brings mango, fish pie, how much one eats after tikle. This year, even if 1 percent of the buds that came and germinated, it will reach the target of 100 percent production. Many people including Rabiul Islam of Kansat area, Qayyum Ali member of Chhatrajitpur area said, this time I expected more production than last few years. But about three weeks ago, 50 percent of the buds were destroyed due to fog and cloudy skies. The temperature has risen for ten to twelve days. Mango farmer Selim said that irrigation is being provided in the orchards with salo machines. Orchard owners Jamal Hossain Palash, Samim Khan and Abdul Latif said mango orchard owners and growers should be encouraged to provide free fertilizer and irrigation for mango production. Omar Farooq Tipu, general secretary of Kansat Mango Artdar Business Cooperative Society Ltd., said, "This year`s mango yield was good, but the mango is falling due to non-rains." Moreover, the people of the district are worried about the loss due to corona. Deputy Director Nazrul Islam also said that although there has been a lot of rain for a week since October 9 last year, there has been no rain since then. Agriculture Officer Shariful Islam also said that the agriculture department has been working in the field since last month to inspect the gardens and give advice. Mango growers and gardeners are being advised to provide irrigation, spray and all kinds of advice by understanding the weather and environmental conditions.
