Abu Sayem, Cox`s Bazar: Fugitive accused Idris Khandaker Khokon has been arrested in a forest case in Dwip Upazila Kutubdia.
According to sources, former vice chairman of Kutubdia upazila, BNP vice-president Idris Khandaker Khokon has been arrested by Kutubdia police.
Police said he was arrested from the medical gate on Monday morning on a tip-off. He is the son of the late Saleh Ahmed, former chairman of the Kairbil Union.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kutubdia Police Station Jalal Uddin said Idris Khandaker Khokon was arrested on the basis of secret information. In a forest case (GR 119/17) he was a fugitive for about 3 years. He also said that the arrested accused has been sent to jail through the court.
Locals said the victims were breathing a sigh of relief after the arrest of former Kutubdia Upazila Vice Chairman Idris Khandaker Khokon. The old occupation of Idris Khandaker Khokon, son of Saleh Ahmed, chairman of Kairabil Union of Kutubdia, was to occupy people`s houses and protected forest lands under the influence of power.
Many have lost their homes and livelihoods because of them. They used to carry out their illegal activities in heroism by occupying the legitimate places of the people by showing their power.
Finally, the locals are breathing a sigh of relief after being arrested by the police after fleeing for 3 years in a forest case. Sachetanmahal has sought justice for all the immoral activities of Khokon.
