Bir Bikram Abdus Sabur Khan, a heroic freedom fighter and a senior labour leader from Tangail has passed away.
The 83-year-old war veteran breathed his last while undergoing treatment for kidney, diabetes and several other health complications at a hospital in the capital on Monday night.
His body was taken back to Tangail the same night, where he will be laid to rest after his namaz-e-janaza at the ground of Bindubasini Govt Boys High School after Johr prayer on Tuesday, confirmed his son Mahmudur Rahman Khan Biplob.
On April 8, Sabur Khan was admitted to a Dhaka hospital with kidney, diabetes and other health complications. It was there he tested positive for Covid-19 and later died Monday night while undergoing treatment at the ICU unit.
Abdus Sabur Khan was born in 1934 at Faridganj village of Chandpur. In the 1960s, he moved to Tangail, where he took part in the 1971 Liberation War under the leadership of Bangabir Abdul Kader Siddique. For his bravery in the war, he was awarded the title of Bir Bikram, the second-highest gallantry award for the living.
Abdus Sabur Khan is survived by five sons and one daughter.
Leaders and activists from the Tangail district unit Awami League and Tangail Press Club have expressed deep grief over the death of the gallant war hero.
