Eiahia Nakib of DOT: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, had given specific suggestions to resolve the Kashmir crisis. The issue had been highlighted in ‘Karagarer Rojnamcha’, the biography of the father of the nation. Regarding Kashmir, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had written, “in terms of shooting and torture, no one legs behind another. It is not possible to resolve the problem by shooting or making arrest. India should have made a permanent peace agreement between the two countries by undertaking a referendum with votes from the people of Kashmir.” reports Jugantor.
The Kashmir crisis is decades old issue. The problem with Kashmir started with the introduction of India and Pakistan as two independent states since 1947.
Bangabandhu said, “Why is India denying taking views of the people of Kashmir, when India considers itself an idol of democracy? At this rate, both India and Pakistan will find themselves face to face with terrible danger.”
While criticizing India for ignoring the public opinion of Jammu and Kashmir, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman also said, “Why does India, a believer itself of democracy, refuse to walk on the path of democracy?” Because they know that the people of Kashmir will not vote for India if they are given the chance to choose via referendum. Therefore, it must be occupied with injustice.
He also said, “The Government of the two countries is harming the people of their own countries without making a peaceful decision about Kashmir.” If peace was established between the countries, it would have been possible spend money in the development of the country rather than spending more money on the military. I am of the view that Indian’s obstinacy is responsible for this unrest”.
Sections 370 allowed, the Muslim majority of Jammu and Kashmir to get a false sense of peace, as it let them the right to make their own constitution, separate flags and individual laws. However, with the repeal of this section, from now onwards, Jammu and Kashmir is being forced to become a union territory.
