Webinar on "How to get scholarship and job for higher studies in Europe, USA and Canada" held at NSU
  Date : 25-04-2024

Press Release: To develop the students` skills, the Department of English and Modern Languages (DEML) of North South University (NSU) organized a Webinar entitled "How to Get Scholarship and Job for Higher Studies in Europe, USA, and Canada" on August 12. Md. Shahinur Alam Johnny was the Keynote Speaker of this one-and-a-half-hour-long webinar, and Mehedi Hasan, Senior Lecturer, DEML, NSU, hosted the event. The Business Standard powered the webinar with jagonews24.com as the online media partner.

The Keynote Speaker Mr. Shahinur Alam, who is currently working as the Technical Solutions and Program Director of LM Ericsson, Europe, completed the General Management Program, one of the reputed and competitive executive education programs, from the world`s elite business school HarvardBusinessSchool. He got the experience of learning with executive leaders worldwide at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He achieved substantial understanding and knowledge in Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain Technologies, and Digital Marketing Analytics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has been successfully blending the knowledge of technology, management, and business in 50+ countries such as the USA, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, UK, Sweden, Ireland, Denmark, France, Canada, China, Australia, and so on for the past 19 years.

This webinar was specially arranged for the students who want to pursue their degrees abroad. After studying in different colleges and universities in Bangladesh, a large number of students want to pursue their higher education from European or North American countries. While pursuing their higher education, many students look for part-time or full-time job opportunities to afford their accommodation and study cost. Due to the lack of accurate information or guidelines, the dream of pursuing higher studies abroad gets shattered. The webinar`s Keynote Speaker addressed these issues and talked about the steps to follow to chase the dream.

The webinar went with full enthusiasm and participation of the audience. Numerous queries came from the audience. The speaker progressively shed light on all the questions and gave step-by-step instructions to the audience. The Speaker, Mr. Shahinur Alam, first discussed the obstacles students might face in pursuing higher studies abroad. He then detailed what the students need to do to overcome the barriers and secure higher education abroad with scholarships. He also emphasized institutional education as well as the skill development of students. He said that even if the institutional results are a little less or worse, the participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities mentioned in the CV  can significantly increase the candidate`s acceptance at the foreign universities.

In the second phase of the webinar, he mentioned the five criteria for getting scholarships at prominent universities worldwide: a handsome GRE/ IELTS/ SAT score, a well-written SOP (Statement of Purpose), extraordinary LOR (Letter of Recommendation) from the supervisors/ instructors, an excellent academic result/ CGPA, and last but not least, research or work experience. Instead of rushing to credit transfers to universities outside the country, he suggested pursuing higher studies abroad after completing undergraduate or postgraduate education in their home country and focusing more on academic research and skill development. He also presented all the relevant information, such as IELTS and GRE, criteria to select the countries based on students` living suitability, a list of all the best universities globally, and some topics regarding the enrichment of student profile or CV for application.

He concluded his valuable speech by wishing a bright future to the students who wish to pursue higher studies abroad.
