No room for debate on caretaker govt: Quader
  Date : 19-04-2024

Online Report : Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said that there is no room for debate on caretaker government system.

“The caretaker government system was dissolved in 2011 according to the court order. This is a settled issue. The apex court sent the caretaker government system to the museum. There is no room for new debate,” said Quader while addressing at a programme in Munshiagnaj on Sunday.

The minister handed over the documents of land allotted at the rehabilitation site among the families affected by the Padma Multipurpose Bridge construction project at Mawa.

Mentioning the BNP secretary general, the minister said, “The government’s neutrality over the election is not a matter of question. Neutrality of Election Commission is a must. If the election commission is neutral, the election will also be neutral.”

Quader said, “All the work of the election is done through the election commission. Timely steps will be taken to form a neutral election commission for fair elections. Elections will be held in Bangladesh in the same way as in other democratic countries of the world.”

“Our democracy has matured to some extent. There was a caretaker government in 2001 then a caretaker government was formed in 2006. But Bangladesh is no longer in a position to form a caretaker government. So everyone should take preparation for the election without chaos,” he added.

Munshiganj-2 MP Sagufta Yasmin Emily, project director of Padma Bridge Project Shafiqul Islam and chief coordinator of Padma Bridge Rail Link Project Major General SM Zahid Hossain spoke at the programme, among others.

Bridge Division Secretary Abu Bakr Siddique presided over the programme.
