Who is responsible for making Dhaka city unhealthy and healthy?
  Date : 18-04-2024

Rasheduzzaman Rashed: The surface is made up of a combination of all visible and invisible organic and inorganic matter.  In other words, everything around us is our environment.  Many things in this environment we see with the naked eye and some elements require instruments.  If there is no environment in our society, will any human existence survive?  The answer is no, we can`t survive a single moment.  Due to which human beings do not exist on the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.  Global warming is increasing due to the activities of human beings. The temperature is already rising above 49 degrees Celsius and extreme weather is appearing.  Extreme heat waves, heavy rainfall, droughts, or cyclones are now seen in many parts of the world, and this climate change is evident.  As a result, the planet Earth is becoming uninhabitable, which is an ominous sign for mankind.  How ready is Bangladesh to fight the risks of climate change?  Recently

Dhaka`s Air Quality Index (AQI) of 200 has been recorded, indicating that air quality is `unhealthy`.  According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a city with an air quality index above 200 is considered unhealthy.  If it is above 300, it is called catastrophic.  China`s Wuhan topped the list with 216 AQI scores, followed by Dhaka and Kolkata with 193 points.  The AQI indicator made with the air quality proves that the city air is polluted.

Dhaka has been suffering from air pollution for a long time.  Who is making Dhaka city unhealthy?  With the onset of winter, the city`s air quality begins to deteriorate rapidly due to massive emissions from construction work, street dust, and other sources.  Expert research has shown that Dhaka, the capital city, is one of the most polluted countries in the world.  This is due to the proliferation of old vehicles, unplanned digging of roads in the city, pollution of brick kilns and factories around the city, burning fumes from the city and the uninhabitable city of Dhaka for not taking appropriate action by the state.  Every day 438 metric tons of dust accumulates in the plants of Dhaka city.  As such, 13 thousand metric tons of dust is accumulated per month.  As the accumulated dust mixes with the air during the day and increases pollution, so does the extra speed of the car at night.  And so the level of air pollution increases from day to night.

Air pollution has created serious health risks in Dhaka city.  In addition to the normal breathing of children, there are various physical complications.  Cancer, shortness of breath, and neurological problems are on the rise due to the increase in heavy metals and fine particles in the air.  According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 70,000 people worldwide die each year from air pollution, mainly stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer and acute respiratory infections.

The condition of air pollution in our country is getting worse day by day.  But sadly the source of air pollution is increasing day by day.  The role of the state in preventing air pollution is not so noticeable.  The main task of preventing air pollution is the Department of Environment.  But when they can`t stop air pollution, they must be held accountable.  Earlier we saw that the air quality in Karwan Bazar area of the capital was 296, which is very unhealthy as it is close to disaster.  The environment of that place is also polluted.  As a result, people will not be able to live with the polluted environment.  The capital city of our country is Dhaka.  As a result, we know that educated people and environment of this city have improved but day by day news is being spread that Dhaka city is unhealthy then naturally there are more questions about the number of public universities in this city  There is.  But despite having so many educated people, why would Dhaka be an unqualified city today?  The VIP people of our country do not go out on the open road, they just drive around in VIP cars, so they have a headache with their environment.  But more working people due to environmental pollution.  Those who rush to Dhaka city after days to satisfy their hunger are the ones who suffer the most.  But remember that people will survive if they live in the environment.  Therefore, as human beings, the main responsibility is not only for development but also for the protection of the environment.  As a result, besides the awareness of the people, the state has to fulfill important responsibilities.  The air pollution index should not be 300, but the pollution level index should be 50. He needs to keep Dhaka clean and tidy, Unplanned activities need to be strictly controlled.  Plan according to the capacity of the city.  Growth must also be planned.  Citizens need to be proactive in solving the problems they are facing.  Participation of various media, political parties, social, cultural and voluntary organizations is also required.  The task of building a livable city has to be done properly by the mayors and councilors.
