Armed attacks on unarmed students
  Date : 20-04-2024

Rasheduzzaman Rashed: A video of unarmed students being attacked with sticks and tear gas on the campus of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SHUST) has been circulated on social media.  University teachers, research academics and leftist student organizations have strongly condemned and protested the attack.  Why are innocent students attacked?  Our university is the birthplace of the Bengali national liberation struggle.  The great language movement started on March 11, 1948 under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.  On February 21, 1952, all the students of the country, including DhakaUniversity, defended their mother tongue by pouring fresh blood on the streets in violation of section 144, demanding to speak in Bengali.  The commercialization education policy that was formulated under the leadership of the Sharif Commission during the rule of the military ruler Ayub Khan.  A student strike was called against him on September 17, 1962.  Durbar movement was formed.  The police were shot dead in the procession during the strike.  Due to the intensity of the movement, the military ruler Ayub Khan Sharif was forced to cancel the education policy of the commission.  However, in the fiftieth year of independence in independent Bangladesh, our education policy "money whose education has been turned into this policy."

The language movement of 1952, the Muslim League suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the United Front in the 1954 elections.  The people of the country are extremely concerned about the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the traditional student organization of uncompromising struggle in the great war of liberation.  Why are ordinary students not safe today due to the long tradition of student organizations?  Every day, the position of Chhatra League smugglers, drug dealers, land robbers, arms dealers, rapists, occupiers, bidders, looters in the area, etc., is published in the pages of any newspaper.  Not only Chhatra League but also Chhatra Dal, Jatiya Chhatra Samaj and Chhatra Shibir were in a similar situation in the past.

Recently at ShahjalalUniversity of Science and Technology

Resignation of the presiding committee of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall, appointment of student friendly and responsible presiding committee, elimination of all mismanagement to ensure healthy and normal environment of the hall.  At least 50 people were injured when the student movement was attacked by the BCL and then by the police.  Police have used various methods ranging from baton charges to sound grenades to make the students bloody, many of whom have been hospitalized.  University Vice Chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed made the students bloody.  Several students have complained that Farid Uddin Ahmed used to run the university in an authoritarian manner and did not take anyone`s opinion.  He also took away the students` right to speak.  He always created divisions and conflicts between teachers and students.  So how can you sit in his chair?  Sitting in that chair again, he made a hateful statement that "no one wants to easily marry the girls of JahangirnagarUniversity".  When such an ugly statement is made to the vice chancellor of a university, the question naturally arises whether he wants to make the country Pakistan?  What will the students learn from such backward thinking teacher?  Female students will not be able to roam the campus at night.  Why can`t she go out because she has a daughter?  What is the crime of being born into the world as a girl?  It is not a crime to be born a woman in the world but a crime against those who cannot provide security to students in educational institutions.  A man is also a human being and a woman is also a human being so as a human being every person has freedom.  The university administration has accused 200 to 300 students of anonymously accusing them of agitating for a democratic environment on campus.

The police attacked the students and again filed a case against them.  It is clear to all the students who is behind the motive case.  Intentional, harassing and false charges must be withdrawn.

The purpose of education is not to teach, but to motivate to learn.

The teacher`s job is to give birth to a second person.  That is the second birth.  The teacher shows the students what kind of environment you are in and what kind of education you are receiving.  Masterda Suryasen, the leader of the fiery patriotic anti-British movement, has learned that inspiration.  He has learned that we will not accept anyone`s subordination.  We will live independently with our heads held high.  He defended the dignity of life with life.  When will we get a teacher like Masterda Suryasen, the ideal teacher? Whenever university students protest peacefully demanding their right to education, the university administration attacks the students and announces closure of the university hall.  But the question is whether the problem of students is solved by closing the university hall?  In order to solve the problem of the university, the demands of the students should be analyzed in a good way and a logical solution should be brought.  But by doing so, students are being attacked, threatened with lawsuits, etc.  Students chanting slogans in the streets "I don`t want a VC who shoots VCs" When a peaceful movement on campus was attacked by police, it is safe to say that students were attacked with the help of the VC of the university.  The VC who is supposed to provide security at the university is bringing police to the campus and attacking the students.  At that time he did not qualify to be the Vice Chancellor of that university.

Art-culture, culture-tradition and the pride of Bengalis and our pride.  It is mixed in the blood of Bengalis, which is not borrowed from anyone.  The real identity of a nation is based on history and tradition.  In our country there is history of Lalongeeti, Bhatiali, Bhavaya, Kavigan, Jarigan.  As a result, there will be exchange of art-culture, culture-tradition, but it will be balanced.  We will be able to exchange ours properly but sadly in independent Bangladesh - culture is restricted.  In front of the Student-Teacher Center (TSC) of DhakaUniversity, a group of students organized a Qawwali band `Silsila`.  The student wing of the ruling party attacked the song hall.  Then it has to be compared with the activities of the then government of Pakistan.  The Pakistanis also invaded our culture.  But the struggling Bengalis had to be defeated.  As a result, we have had to give a sea of blood to build a non-communal Bangladesh.  The university will create competent leadership in Bangladesh in the future.  As a result, artists, writers and dedicated cultural activists will be formed from the university.  Through various cultural activities, a student will become a benevolent, altruistic, sensitive and patriotic minded generation.  University means to develop as a person with a real sense of humanity.  But sadly, the universities are creating a graduate generation of self-interested and extremely self-reliant graduates.  Therefore, the university should be the gateway of research and creativity, not biblical studies. Student-teacher friendly relations must be maintained for a conducive learning environment in the university.  Teachers need to be loving and caring.  As a result, it is the responsibility and duty of the state to ensure a democratic environment on the campus of the university by accepting the demands of the students quickly.
