7,809 killed in road accidents in 2021

Online Desk : At least 7,809 people were killed and 9,039 others injured in 5,629 road accidents in 2021 despite the movement of public transport remained suspended for 85 days to curb the Coronavirus.

Earlier in 2020, 6,686 people were killed and 8,600 others injured in 4,891 road accidents.

Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, revealed the information at a press conference at the Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporter`s Unity (DRU) on Sunday.

He said 396 people were killed and 134 were injured in 402 accidents on the railway.

In the waterways, 311 were killed, 578 were injured and 544 went missing in 182 accidents, he added.

Former President of FBCCI Abdul Haque, Human Rights Activist Nur Khan Liton and BUET Professor Dr Hadiuzzaman were present among others during time.
