District Correspondent : A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Bandarban on Wednesday (Oct 19).

The deceased identified as Abdul Mannan, 53, was Naib Subedar at the Border Observation Post (BOP) of Vallukkhaiya, a border area of Naikhongchari Sadar in Bandarban.

The incident happened around 10 pm in the area between 48-49 pillars of the border.

According to BGB sources, while patrolling, a team of BGB started operation acting on a tip-off that smugglers from Myanmar were about to cross the Bangladesh border with cattle. On the way, a group of wild elephants fell in front of the BGB patrolling team, however, others managed to escape, but Naib Subedar Abdul Mannan was trampled by a wild elephant and died on the spot.
