Mosquito eradication given utmost importance: DSCC Mayor
  Date : 25-04-2024

News Desk: Mosquito eradication has been given the highest importance to protect the city dwellers from mosquito infestation. Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Sunday said this while inaugurating the year-long mosquito eradication program of DSCC on Sunday.

`Mosquito eradication has been given the highest priority so that city dwellers don’t have to tolerate mosquito bites like last year,’ he added.

He continued: In order to eradicate mosquitoes, mosquito eradication activities have been reorganized from top to bottom and the implementation of this newly adopted an action plan that has started from today. It will run simultaneously in 65 wards of the corporation.

DSCC Mayor hoped that the mosquito breeding would be significantly reduced from next year if these activities are carried out properly.

Taposh added, `we don’t want the city dwellers to be infected with dengue or chikungunya. That is why mosquito eradication activities have been accelerated even in the midst of this epidemic in Corona and this will continue for 24 hours.’

He also said, the work of cleaning the water bodies and reservoirs will start from June 14.

In addition, tilapia farming and duck rearing will be done in the water bodies and this will keep the reservoirs active and mosquito larvae will not be able to give birth.

He said that everyone has to follow the directives of the Prime Minister to stop the spread of the corona virus.

Hazi Mohammad Selim, MP, Dhaka South City Awami League President and General Secretary Abu Ahmed Monnafi and Humayun Kabir and chief executive officer of City Corporation Shah Md. Imdadul Haque, among others were present during inauguration program with the mayor.
