Press Release: Bangladesh Muslim League leaders have strongly condemned the recent announcement by the Chinese government of duty-free access to the Chinese market for Bangladeshi products under the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement. In a statement today, party president Ed. Badruddoza Shuja and Secretary General Kazi Abul Khair made the above remarks and said that calling the trade agreement a charitable agreement is an excellent proof of inferior mentality. For a long time, the Bangladesh government has been pushing for duty-free access of Bangladeshi products to the Chinese market in the interest of maintaining trade balance with China, which has finally met with success. Calling this success of Bangladesh`s commercial diplomacy a charity in various Indian media is tantamount to insulting an independent sovereign state. The position of editor of the media is very important and honorable, who is considered as an intellectual all over the world. The leaders also questioned the quality, competence and etiquette of the journalists, including the editors of the media outlets that use such insulting words about the neighboring friendly state. It is up to the Indian government to consider whether such media personnel are engaged in cracking down on friendly relations between Bangladesh and India. However, if the Indian government refrains from taking any punitive action in this regard, India will also lose its last ally in the Asia-Pacific region. Bangladesh`s trade with India is unbalanced. Those who are angry over China`s announcement of duty-free facilities should make strong demands for effective duty-free Bangladeshi products in the Indian market if they can afford it. We do not understand why they are being harassed by the benefits provided by other countries. The leaders demanded that the highest level of the Bangladesh government immediately raise formal objections and protests in this regard.
