Cutting down trees worth Tk 3 lakh on government road in Melandah: No case filed even the trees seized
  Date : 29-03-2024

Nur-e-Azam, Melandah: A Labor League leader named Monju has cut down trees worth around Tk 3 lakh on the government road in Melandah. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tamim Al Yameen Nayanagar UP Chairman Safiul Alam Shahab Uddin seized the trees from the sanctioned `S` mill but no case has been registered yet. It is learned that about 24 mahogany, blackberry, jackfruit and other species of trees on both sides of the road south of Ghoramara canal in Randhunigachha village of Charbanipakuria union No. 8 have been kept by Manjurul Haque Manju, general secretary of Nayanagar union, at a nominal price. Later, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tamim Al Yameen confiscated the trees through UP Chairman Shafiul Alam Shahab Uddin and kept them in his custody. Although about 24 trees have been cut down, only a few have been seized. Although there are various allegations against Manzur, a rising leader of the Malanche area, including cutting down trees on the road, he has repeatedly crossed the line by discrediting a top leader of the district Awami League. Although a complaint was lodged against him at the police station, the police did not file a case. On the other hand, when I contacted the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tamim Al Yameen about cutting down the trees, he said, "The cut down trees have been confiscated and kept in my custody." Those involved will be investigated and a case will be filed.
