Faisal Azam Apu, Chapainawabganj: Amidst joy and excitement, a discussion meeting was held in Chapainawabganj on the occasion of Janmashtami, the 5246th birth anniversary of Sri Krishna. The discussion meeting was held at the Charjot Pratap Durgamata Thakurani temple in the district town on Tuesday morning. The meeting was organized by the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust of the Ministry of Religion was the chief guest, Nawabganj Government College Principal Prof. Shankar Kumar Kundu. The chief speaker of the meeting was Acharya Srila Shyamkishore Das Goswami, founder of Chapainawabganj North Bengal Vaishnava Sangha. The meeting was presided over by Shri Milon Kumar Das, Assistant Project Director, Chapainawabganj District Office for Temple-Based Children and Co-education Activities. Journalist Dablu Kumar Ghosh, President of the Public Worship Committee was the special guest. Shri Swapan Kumar Ghosh, General Secretary of Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila Branch, Shri Dhananjay Chatterjee, Organizing Secretary of District Branch, Shri Basudev Nandi, President of Charjot Pratap Durgamata Thakurani Mandir, Shri Ajit Das, General Secretary and followers of Hindu community were present. In the discussion meeting, the negotiators said that on the eighth day of Krishnapaksha in the month of Bhadra, with the addition of Rohini Lakshatra, Krishna Madhura was born as the eighth child of Mata Devaki in the Kangsa prison. His birthday is called Janmashtami. Birthday of Lord Krishna, the promoter of traditional religion and the supreme deity of life. According to the followers of traditional religions, Lord Krishna appeared in Dharadham on the eighth day of Krishnapaksha in the month of Bhadra about five and a half thousand years ago. He was born in Kangsa prison with the aim of establishing the rights of peace loving saints against oppressors and miscreants. He was a novice in maintaining good manners and suppressing evil. In establishing truth and justice, the Hindus have placed Lord Krishna in the seat of God. Due to Corona, Janmashtami is being celebrated on a limited scale across the country this year. There are no Janmashtami processions, processions and rallies. However, the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council has said that all other rituals including Krishna Puja will be observed in the temple premises in compliance with the hygiene rules. Other programs in the premises of different temples include Gita Yajna, Kirtan, Aarti, Prasad distribution, religious discussion meetings etc.
