RUET Correspondent: On the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day 2020, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) celebrated the day with various programs in compliance with the hygiene rules. At sunrise, the national flag was hoisted at half-mast in the administrative buildings and halls and the flag was raised as a symbol of mourning. Then at 10:00 am a black badge was used as a symbol of mourning. The newly constructed mural of Bangabandhu was inaugurated at 10:30 am at the Bangabandhu Corner of the Central Library by the Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sheikh. At 10:45 am, a wreath was laid and tributes were paid to the newly constructed mural of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman led by the Vice-Chancellor of RUET. He also laid wreaths at various residential halls including RUET Teachers Association, RUET Branch Chhatra League, RUET Officers Association, Employees Association. Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology Registrar (Acting) Professor was also present. Md. Selim Hossain, RUET Teachers Association President Prof. Md. Farak Hossain and General Secretary Prof. Mia Md. Jaglul Sadat, Director Student Welfare and August 15 National Mourning Day Celebration Committee President Prof. Md. Rabiul Awal, Deputy Director Student Welfare Md. Mamunur Rashid and Abu Saeed, President of RUET Officers Association Dilip Kumar Ghosh and General Secretary Engineer Mufti Mahmud Rony, General Secretary of RUET Branch BCL Chowdhury Mahfuzur Rahman Tapu, President of Employees Association Md. Deans of various faculties including Mamun Shuvo, Heads of Departments, Provosts of Halls, Teachers, Officers and Staff were present. After paying homage, on the occasion of the day at 11:00 am, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sheikh planted trees. After noon, prayers were held at the Ruwet Central Jame Mosque for the souls of all the martyrs killed on August 15, including Bangabandhu.

It is to be noted that the mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the first mural made in the history of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology. Built under the overall supervision of Md. Rafiqul Islam Sheikh. After the tree planting program, RUET Vice-Chancellor Bangabandhu visited the corner.
