Businessmen praising SP after the arrest of Shariatpur Inter-district thieves

Md. Jabed Sheikh, Shariatpur: The police department of Shariatpur using modern and advanced technology arrested 6 thieves in Antzela thief ring. Superintendent of Police SM Ashrafuzzaman is floating in praise of the businessmen.

Members of the police team managed to identify the thief by tracking CCTV video footage and phone calls after a mobile phone was stolen from a show room in Palang Uttar Bazar in Shariatpur district town recently. District Superintendent of Police SM Ashrafuzzaman informed the media personnel working in Shariatpur about this success through a press briefing at the office of the Superintendent of Police.

According to the press briefing, 162 mobile sets worth around Tk 24 lakh were stolen from the showroom of Semant Ghosh`s Modern Smart Gallery at Palang Uttar Bazar in the district town on October 5 at around 6:15 am. A case was filed in this regard at Palang Model Police Station on the same day. Palang police started investigation and identified the thief using modern technology.

They then launched an operation to arrest the thieves. A team of Shariatpur district police led by Additional Superintendent of Police SM Mizanur Rahman and Detective Branch (DB) Officer-in-Charge Saiful Alam and case investigation officer SI Pallab Kumar Sarkar conducted the operation. Thieves in the campaign (1) said. Milon from Comilla Langalkot, (2) said. Rafiq from Kachua in Chandpur, (3) Matin alias Moti alias Moitya from Comilla Sadar, (4) Ibrahim Islam alias Nayan Saha from Alangkar Bus Terminal in Chittagong, (5) Mokaram Hossain alias Monir alias Monu alias Rubel from Bayazid Bastami Police Station in Chittagong, (6) ) Manik Mia from Comilla crossroads and (7) Md. Maqbool Hossain was arrested from Murad Nagar in Comilla. Police recovered a cutter and a stolen mobile phone from them.

Palang Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Aslam Uddin, DIO-1 Azharul Islam and other police officials were present at the press briefing.

Police Super SM Ashrafuzzaman said on his press briefing, the thieves had been staying at the Chandra Rest House in the city the night before the incident using their pseudonyms and fake mobile numbers. At the end of the night in the morning they entered the shop by cutting the lock of the main gate of the mobile market and the shutter lock of the mobile shop in their own strict alert condition. He later stole 162 expensive mobile sets of different brands from the shop. Analyzing the CCTV footage, it is seen that Manik was talking on his mobile phone during the theft, Nayan Saha hid the door with his lungi, Rafiq and Moitya broke the lock of the shop.

The police superintendent further said that the arrested accused had initially confessed that they were planning to commit the theft while sitting in Comilla. Accused Rafiq`s aunt`s house at Gosairhat in Shariatpur. They committed the theft on their way there. According to the interrogation, the gang has committed more than 50 thefts in Jhenaidah, Comilla, Gopalganj, Faridpur, Tangail and other districts. Their target is mobile, gold and development shops.

During a press briefing, Superintendent of Police Ashrafuzzaman told media persons working in Shariatpur that it would not have been possible to nab the gang without CCTV cameras. He requested the concerned to bring all the hat-bazaars of Shariatpur under CCTV cameras.
