A.K.Sazu, Naogaon: Three acres of 33 acres of paddy land in Naogaon has been burnt with chemicals by miscreants. When the aggrieved farmer went to the police station to file a case in this regard, the OC of Patnitala police station advised him not to file a case at the police station but to file a case in the court.

The incident took place at Dasnagar village of Amair union in Patnitala upazila of the district on Monday night.

Land owners Rezadul Islam and Harun Rashid complained that there was a long-running dispute with Habibur Rahman, son of the late Azimuddin of a neighboring village. Due to this, three acres of paddy land of his 33 acres of land was burnt by spraying acid-like chemicals on the people last Monday night. As a result, the grains of paddy have been burnt and destroyed. They claimed that he lost about one lakh rupees.

Rezadul Islam further said that when he went to file a case with Patnitala police station, the OC said that there was pressure from above. The case cannot be taken. Advise us that you file a case in the court.

However, Habibur Rahman said he was not involved in spraying chemicals in the paddy fields. He does not know who did this.

Patnitala Upazila Agriculture Officer Prakash Chandra Sarkar said, "We have inspected the damaged land." Rezadul Islam and Harun Rashid, farmers of Dasnagar village in the upazila, have been found guilty of burning three acres of 33 acres of paddy land with harmful chemicals. A report has been sent to the higher office in this regard.

Patnitala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Parimal Kumar Chakraborty said no allegation was found as to why the paddy was sprayed with chemicals. If a complaint is received, action will be taken as per the rules.
