BNP’s political inheritance characterizes blood and conspiracy: Obadidul Quader
  Date : 18-04-2024

Staff Correspondent: Criticizing the political strategy of BNP, Awami League General Secretary Obadidul Quader on Monday said BNP wears the mask of democracy as their political inheritance characterizes blood and conspiracy.
“BNP’s ill-politics is the biggest impediment on the way to institutionalization of democracy in the country as killings and designing conspiracies are their political culture”, he said in a routine briefing from his official residence here on Monday.
Criticizing the BNP’s demand for resignation of the government and holding elections under a neutral government, Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said the country is progressing ahead under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina whereas they are trying to making an issue without any legal basis.
BNP is demanding government’s resignation by resorting to social demonstrations against rape after failing to exploit previous two issues like movements for safe road and quota reform, the minister told the online briefing.
“BNP leaders should take lessons from all their failed movements. There is no necessity to make demand for resignation of the government as the elections will be held as per the constitution in due time”, he added.

Replying to a statement made by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on the possibility of peoples’ agitation on the streets, Quader said, “It is doubtful whether Mirza Fakhrul himself has any belief on it or not.”

BNP’s movement is likened to the cloud in the sky during the rainy season (Ashar) as the party is roaring aloud on the social and mass media, he said.

Turning down BNP’s repeated claim that there is no freedom of media in the country, he said allegations made by the BNP are false and outdated. Even they are clamouring that the government has no tolerance on the dissidents, he added.

“Only the Awami League nurtures the culture of tolerance in the country and that’s why the BNP leaders are always making falsehood”, the minister added.

A total of 50 journalists had been assaulted in three months after the BNP came to power in 2001 and it was revealed by the ‘Reporters Without Border’ at that time, Quader said.
The BNP leaders are now giving lip services on the mass media which is merely an eye wash, he said.
The democracy is not a single wheel bicycle, it is a balanced notion that underscores everyone’s cooperation along with the government, he added.
