19 fishermen detained in Bhedarganj on 13th day of protection of mother hilsa: Speedboat, trawler, nets seized

M. Harun Aur Rashid, Shariatpur: On the 13th day of the campaign to protect mother hilsa from 6 pm on October 26 to 6 am on October 27, Vedharganj Upazila Administration, Fisheries Department and Sakhipur Police raided the PadmaRiver and arrested 19 fishermen. During this time, 20,000 meters of current nets, 1 speedboat, 1 engine driven trawler and 20 kg of mother hilsa were seized.

Vedarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tanvir Al Nasif led by Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md. Nazrul Islam and Sakhipur Thana Police jointly conducted the operation to protect mother hilsa.

Tanvir Al Nasif, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said that in collaboration with Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Nazrul Islam and the officer-in-charge of Sakhipur Police Station, on the 13th day of 2020, 19 fishermen were arrested, 20,000 meters of current nets and 1 speedboat were seized. 1 engine driven trawler was seized. The nets have been burned and destroyed in front of the people. Fishermen have been given imprisonment and fine under the existing law. Mother hilsa has been distributed to local orphanages. The issue of the seized ship will be decided later.
