Messi named as 2020`s Champion for Peace
  Date : 25-04-2024

Sports Desk : Robert Lewandowski may have pipped him to The Best award for 2020, however Lionel Messi is continuing to accumulate his own prizes as the Argentine has been crowned 2020`s Champion for Peace winner.

It was confirmed on Friday afternoon that Barcelona`s captain had won the award, for all that he does to help people off the pitch, reports Marca.

"I`m truly honoured to be recognised as a fair player and for my social commitment with the Champion for Peace award of 2020," Messi posted on his Instagram page.

"Thank you to Peace and Sport for this beautiful acknowledgement."

Saturday could well see Messi receive another accolade, only this time for his on-pitch exploits, with the La Masia graduate needing just two goals to equal Pele`s record for most goals for a single club.

The Brazilian icon netted 643 goals in 19 seasons with Santos, whilst Messi will do the same in two goals` time, but in two fewer seasons.
