MT Desk: Inspector General of Police (IGP) said. Benazir Ahmed said, `Teen gangs are a big problem in Bangladesh at present. And the family has to take the responsibility of all these children. It is your responsibility. If not, why did you give birth to a child?
The IGP was speaking at a function to provide education assistance to poor meritorious and disabled students on the occasion of `RAB Service Week` at the RAB headquarters in Kurmitola on Monday.
Referring to the death of a student of Kalabagan and Level, the IGP said, `There was rape, there was murder. This is a full-fledged crime. This teenage gang has to be dealt with. Society must come forward. Because these teenagers are the Bangladesh of the future.
According to Benazir Ahmed, “There are various rules for taking children into custody as per the court order. They will have to be tried in juvenile court. How many juvenile courts are there in our country? If children are caught, they should be kept in the correctional facility. But how many correctional facilities are there? But won`t we arrest juvenile gangs and juvenile delinquents? There is no children`s court, what will not be judged? Yes, everything has to be done. However, the family has to take responsibility for the awareness of the children. It is also the social, moral and religious responsibility of parents.
The IGP said that according to the law, everyone under the age of 18 is a child. Human rights and NGO activists have made many changes and amendments to the law. We need modernization. As an IGP, I do not disagree. However, in making sophisticated laws, we have to keep in mind whether we are creating any problem in the country.
RAB Director General (DG) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and other members were also present on the occasion.
