  Date : 18-04-2024

Abdur Razzak, Kushtia

A press conference has been held in Kushtia`s Mirpur municipality to protest against the BNP-nominated mayoral candidates, independent mayoral candidates and councilors threatening to beat them. BNP-backed candidates Arifur Rahman and independent candidates and councilor candidates of nine wards participated in the municipal elections at a press conference at ChilisFoodPark restaurant in Kushtia city at 11 am today.

In a written statement at the press conference, BNP-backed candidate Rahmat Ali Rabban and independent candidate Arifur Rahman claimed that supporters of Awami League nominee Haji Enamul Haque had threatened them, beaten up activists and forced them to vote on election day. He also alleged that independent candidates were beaten for protesting against the eviction of polling agents on election day. Awami League nominee Haji Enamul Haque also publicly announced to seal the boat symbol in violation of the election code of conduct, which also went viral through social media.

At the press conference, it was claimed that the voting was forced by disrupting the fair environment of the election.

BNP nominee for mayor, Rahmat Ali Rabban, independent candidate Arifur Rahman and councilor candidates contesting in different wards were present at the time.
