Prisoner dies in Kurigram jail

Two days before the end of the sentence, an old man named Arbindu Chandra alias Bindu Mistry (65) left Maya and passed away. It is learned that on December 21, Bindu Mistry, son of late Kaishal Chandra of Hindu Para village in Rajarhat upazila, was convicted by a mobile court of disturbing the peace while intoxicated. The mobile court sentenced him to one month in jail without parole. There have been mixed reactions to the mobile court`s verdict against the 60-year-old. Shariful Islam of Kurigram Jail district said that a prisoner named Arbindu was sent to Kurigram GeneralHospital on Sunday after suffering from chest pain. He later died. He had only two days left to complete his sentence. Dr. Pulak Kumar Sarkar, Resident Medical Officer-in-Charge of Kurigram General Hospital, said Arbindu died shortly after being admitted to the hospital.
