AL, associates pay tributes to Bangabandhu on historic March 7

Staff Correspondent: Awami League (AL) and its affiliated organizations paid homage to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban on Dhanmondi Road No 32 here today on the occasion of the historic March 7.

Besides, various social, political and cultural organizations also paid tributes to the portrait of Father of the Nation there commemorating the landmark speech of Bangabandhu which was touted as indirect declaration of the country’s independence in 1971.

Leaders, activists and supporters of AL and its allied organizations from different parts of the capital started marching on the east and west sides of road no. 32 from 8:30 am.

A few moments later, crowds of people from all walks of life filled the road No. 32 and the surrounding area to pay homage to Bangabandhu.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi in the city at 9 Am on the occasion of the historic March 7.

After laying the wreath, she stood in solemn silence for sometime as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of the independence.

Prime Minister’s younger sister Sheikh Rehana, also the youngest daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was also present there.

During the time, a special munajat was offered in memory of the martyrs of August 15, 1975 seeking forgiveness of their departed souls.

After the departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the Bangabandhu Bhaban premises, Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader along with AL party leaders laid a wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation on behalf of the party, there.

Awami League (AL) Presidium Members Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Shahjahan Khan, Abdul Matin Khasru and Abdur Rahman, AL Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque and SM Kamal Hossain, State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hassan , Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das and Labor Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj were also present, among others, on the occasion. Later, leaders, activists and supporters of central 14-party alliance, Dhaka North and South city units of AL and allied organizations laid wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.

The leaders and workers of Awami League’s associate bodies, including Awami Jubo League, Chhatra League, Mahila Awami League, Sramik League, Krishak League, Jubo Mohila League and Swechchhasebok League, also paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at his portrait on the occasion.

Bangabandhu Parishad, Bangabandhu Sanskritik Jote, Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, Bangladesh Tanti League, Bangabandhu Sainik League, Sheikh Russel Shishu Sangha, Awami Sanskritik Forum, Bangladesh Pani Unnayan Sramik Karmachari League, Muktijoddha Sanhati Parishad, Awami Shilpi Gosthi and Dhaka Bar Association paid their respects by laying wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu in compliance with the health rules.
