Virtual world security risks and solutions
  Date : 25-04-2024

Alhaj Md. Abu Yusuf: Hope you are with us till the end of the event.  In the last few episodes we have talked about security risks in the virtual world and ways to deal with them. As we have said, in this world there are security risks as well as solutions. But first of all, self-awareness is important.

In fact, an interesting aspect of the virtual world is that in the real sense, there is no need to worry about any restrictions. If necessary, all work can be continued without keeping one`s identity secret. Even if an organization or government imposes certain restrictions, it is possible to avoid them in this world through alternative technology. But the reality is that the freedom that a user enjoys in the virtual world is not really a freedom. Through this a user is only able to get psychological relief. In this world of internet, there is no time limit. There is no division of day and night. In a real sense, the virtual world is changing the conventional notion of space and time. Connections are being made from one end of the world to the other for the welfare of this world. At one time that was unimaginable.

People`s behavior is also changing due to their dependence on the internet. This change is sometimes positive and sometimes negative. Just as it has become easier to acquire common sense, it has also opened the way for easy involvement in crime. Communication is becoming machine-centric. It is said that even though many people live together, they exchange information through devices. As a result, communication and relationships without media are declining. People are now spending a lot more time behind the internet based social media. We are not saying that there is no need for this. But its use is much more than necessary. The distance between the child and the parents is increasing as the family members spend a lot of time behind the internet. The distance between husband and wife is also increasing.

The tendency towards virtual world is comparatively higher among the youth. Due to this a kind of self-centeredness is going to be noticed in the young society. Young people addicted to social media are no longer as eager to gossip as they used to be. As a result, intimacy and tension between family members are reduced. Many are getting addicted to the internet. There are five main reasons why people are so attracted to the Internet and the virtual world. One- inclination towards various sexual matters; Two- strong interest in building new relationships through the Internet; Three- the tendency towards various intoxicating games including gambling; Four- Excessive interest in collecting new information and addiction to the latest computer games. People who are addicted to the Internet usually have less social activity, less interest in everyday work. Loses interest in reading and in some cases loses control of the Internet.

Media like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Viber, WhatsApp and Telegram are gaining popularity day by day. New users are being added there every day. In fact, social media has become a part of people`s lives. The same picture is going to be noticed in all the countries of the world. However, the influence of social media is more noticeable in the family, society and culture. That is why different countries and nations of the world are in danger of losing their national and cultural identity. They are now looking for a way out of this situation.

The Internet has its ups and downs. However, in most cases, children and adolescents are being harmed due to uncontrolled use of the Internet. This kind of lack of control is increasing day by day as many parents are ignorant about the internet. Sometimes taking poor education instead of education. One of the tendencies of children and adolescents is to express themselves and follow others. The tendency to self-disclosure and following makes them curious. Out of curiosity, they want to know and learn something new. This spontaneous desire must be managed in the right way. And only then can children be successful people in future life, in the workplace and in society. On the contrary, if they are not controlled as children and adolescents and are left completely to their own devices, they may become involved in various wrongdoings. That is why the awareness of parents is important. Parents, guardians and teachers need to find out what children and adolescents are doing on the Internet and who they are communicating with.

Parents, guardians and teachers need to be more aware of the current situation. If we have this kind of addiction in ourselves, we have to give it up and focus on building a better future for our children. Children need to be told stories, safe entertainment such as games and walks. Arrangements should be made to keep the children and adolescents engaged in sports which are physically and mentally developing. All in all, the parents and relatives need to give more time to the children in the family.

Above all, individuals, families, society and the state must take the necessary steps in the light of their own environmental conditions to ensure peace, welfare and prosperity for the people of this world. In order to keep the whole human society healthy and prosperous, it is necessary to have discussions, consultations and cooperation at different levels. We have to take concerted efforts to nurture all that is good and keep away all that is bad.
