Public transport to remain suspended from tomorrow: Quader
  Date : 25-04-2024

Staff Correspondent: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said public transport services will remain suspended from tomorrow to contain the rising trend of coronavirus.

“Public transport will remain suspended from tomorrow,” he told a distribution ceremony of coronavirus protective equipment at party president’s Dhanmondi political office joining the function virtually from his official residence in the city.

Quader said the vehicles carrying goods, emergency services, drugs, energy, perishable and relief items, newspapers, and garment materials will remain out of the purview of this suspension.

AL’s sub-committee on relief and social welfare arranged the programme.

Calling upon the people to wear facemasks and follow the health guidelines properly, the minister said administrations and law enforcement agencies and other concerned should be stricter to this end.

As the infection and death rate remains in rising trend, there is no scope to show negligence, he said.

Everyone must wear facemask while going outside of home, Quader said.

“Life is more important than livelihood. So, keep yourselves and families members safe at first,” he said.

The AL general secretary urged the party leaders and workers to stand by the distressed and low income group people during the restrictions.

AL Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretaries Mirza Azam and SM Kamal Hossain, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana, Education Affairs Secretary Samsunnahar Chapa and Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan were present on the occasion at the Dhanmondi office.
