Two youths detained with deer meat in Sharankhola

Bagerhat Correspondent: Police have arrested two youths along with 15 kg of deer meat brought from the Sundarbans after slaughter. Police arrested them with deer meat from Sonatala village in Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat late on Wednesday night. Police seized a motorcycle from them.

They are Aliraj Hossain, 20, son of Alamgir Hawladar of Bakultala village in Sharankhola upazila and Rezaul Hawladar, 22, son of Mohammad Ismail Hawladar of the same village.

Sharankhola Police Station OC Md Saidur Rahman told reporters that the police went there on the basis of secret information that poachers were staying in Sonatala village with deer meat from the Sundarbans. Sensing the presence of the police, they chased them and arrested them when they tried to flee on their motorcycles. They are going to Bagerhat on a motorcycle to sell this deer meat in sacks. They admitted in preliminary interrogation that they were hunting deer to get a trap in the Sundarbans. The two have been charged under the Wildlife Conservation Act. They will be sent to jail through the courts.
