Ilias, general secretary, Md. Farid Uddin, organizing secretary, Md. Taherul Islam, publicity secretary, Selina Begum, president of the NationalDomesticWorkersCenter.
Sultana Begum, president of the organization, said April was the month of mourning for the workers. The killing of 64 workers at Spectrum Garments on April 11, 2005, the most horrific worker killing in the history of the world on April 24, 2013 is happening before our eyes. That blood stain has not been removed even today. Another heinous murder took place on April 17 in Banshkhali, Chittagong, among which the working people have not yet received a fair trial. We are saddened by this show.
The whole world is fighting against the terrible corona virus for centuries to prevent the transmission of corona virus. Although all people stay at home to stay healthy, workers have to go to work at the risk of their lives to secure jobs. Many workers are afraid of losing their jobs. May justice be established for the workers and may their just rights be fulfilled.
The leaders demanded speedy trial of the culprits, execution of the murderer Rana, rehabilitation of the families of the slain workers and injured workers, construction of workers colony by acquiring the property of RanaPlaza and speedy disposal of cases against the killed and injured workers and their families.
The leaders further said that on April 17, five workers were killed in police firing on agitating workers demanding payment of arrears of salaries and allowances at the power plant under construction at Gandamara in Chittagong`s Banshkhali and implementation of 8-hour working day during Ramadan. Judicial investigation of those responsible for the murder demanded punishment of the culprits.
