Passengers stuck at Shimulia Ghat as daytime ferry service suspended

Online Report : A large number of passengers were stranded at Munshiganj`s Shimulia Ghat following the late-night announcement of suspension of daytime ferry service on Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Banglabazar routes from Saturday morning.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) assistant secretary general Shafiqul Islam the ferry services were suspended from 3am.

BIWTC took the decision of suspension of the ferry during daytime as passenger crowd were seen at the ghat on Friday.

BIWTC Chairman Syed Md Tajul Islam said the ferry operations will remain completely suspended during the daytime on Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Banglabazar routes to prevent coronavirus transmission.

He, however, said ferries will be operated at night for crossing vehicles, ambulances and goods carrying trucks.
