Online Report : The second consignment of six metro rail coaches will arrive at Mongla Port on Sunday (May 8).
MV Ocean Grace, a general cargo ship, carrying the flag of Belize, will anchor at Mongla Sea Port with the coaches on board from the Port of Kobe in Japan.
Md Ohiduzzaman, general manager of Ancient Steamship Company Limited, the local agent of MV Ocean Grace, said 48 packages of six coaches, weighing 267 metric tonnes, of the metro rail will arrive at Mongla Port on Sunday.
Earlier on March 31, SPM Bangkok, a foreign bulk cargo vessel arrived at the Mongla Sea Port with the first consignment of six metro rail coaches. Later, all the six coaches were brought at the newly-built jetty of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) in the river Turag at Uttara in Dhaka on April 21 afternoon by barges from the Mongla Sea Port.
Japan`s Kawasaki-Mitsubishi Consortium Company Limited manufactured the coaches in its factory in Kobe. In Bangladesh, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited is the importer of the coaches.
Mongla Port Authority chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa said the second consignment of metro rail compartments would arrive at Mongla Port on Sunday. "Metro Rail`s 144 more compartments will be brought by 24 vessels in phases by 2022 from the Kobe Port," he said.
The stainless steel train will have the system to supply 1500 volts DC power. Each air-conditioned train will have the capacity to carry 738 passengers at a time. There will be two wheel chairs in each train for disabled people.
The metro rail coaches are being made in line with Japanese safety standards. Each coach will have a total of four doors, two each on both sides.
