Hotel Kallol owner blocked by tenant: Harassment by police
  Date : 28-03-2024

Cox`s Bazar Correspondent : Mohsena Akhtar Bakul, a partner (owner) of Hotel Kallol on Cox`s Bazar beach, and her husband were blocked by tenant Imran Hasan and his men. The victim`s hotel owner Bakul called the police emergency service number 999 and expressed about her helplessness. A team of police led by Cox`s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station SI Atiq arrived at the spot around 4:30 pm on Saturday and rescued them from the blockade of room no 505 of the hotel.

Hotel owner Bakul alleged that when they were rescued by unlocking room no. 505 of the hotel, the police mistreated them and tried to detain them at the police station by the instigation of tenant Imran Hasan. However, Bakul said that she was released later in the evening. The incident has caused a stir across the city as well as anger among hoteliers.

It is learned that Mohsena Akhter Bakul, the owner of Hotel Kallol at Sea beach, is the daughter of heroic freedom fighter Idris Ahmed. Imran Hasan, son of Fazlur Rahman of Uttara in Dhaka, a director of J&Z Group and other partners, including the share received after her father`s death, took salami and monthly rent for 10 years from October 2018.

Outside of the rental agreement, hotel owners have been using three rooms privately since before the agreement. There was also a verbal agreement to use the other two rooms even though one room was mentioned in the contract. Later, when asked to amend the contract, the landlord ignored it and the landlord also gave a notice to the tenant to amend the contract.

Mohsena Akhter Bakul, a partner at Kallol Hotel, said, "Last Friday she went to her private room for renovation. But the hotel tenants disconnected the power supply and turned off the water line and called the emergency services at 999. They gave false information to the police. At around 3 pm, SI Dastagir of Cox`s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station went to Hotel and threatened Bakul not to tell anything to the tenant. Later in the evening, he ordered both the parties to come to the police station.

Hotel partner Bakul said that according to the police, when she arrived at the police station in the evening, there was a peaceful settlement between the two parties and she was asked to use her room. Talk to the police and go to the hotel room on Saturday afternoon for the purpose of renovating the room her own.

She added, "My husband and I were ducking inside the hotel room. Later, when my husband Shanto left the room, the people of tenant Imran Hasan locked me in the room. Later we could not find any way. A team of police of Model Police Station led by SI Atiq came to the spot, unlocked the room, rescued me and brought me to the police station.

Hotel partner Bakul lamented, "I went to the police to seek justice for the unjust harassment by the tenants. But it is unfortunate that the police are harassing me. I am seeking the intervention of higher authorities in the administration for justice."

After contact to SI Atiq, he said, "The hotel owners and tenants are scheduled to meet on Sunday afternoon to discuss the dispute. They have been asked to come to the police station with their own documents." When contacted, SI Atiq said, "The hotel owners and tenants are scheduled to meet on Sunday afternoon to discuss the dispute. They have been asked to come to the police station with their own documents."
