Desk Report : A teenage girl drowned in the Mrigi River at Sadar upazila in Sherpur district on Monday afternoon while taking bath.

The deceased was identified as Tanjila, daughter of Insan Mia, a resident of Charsherpur Dhopaghat area under the upazila.

Witnesses said Tanjila`s family live in Dhaka and came to the village home to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

She alongwith his brother Jihad went to the river to take bath in the afternoon. But, they went missing in the river.

Locals rescued Jihad alive but could not find his sister.

Later, a team of divers of Sherpur Fire Service and Civil Defence went to the spot, conduced a rescue operation and recovered the body of Tanjila, our local correspondent reports.
