Online Report : Sea has taken dangerous turn at Kuakata in Barishal due to strong wind with speed up to 80-100 kph in gusts or squalls.
Our Correspondent from Kuakata has reported on Tuesday afternoon that under the influence of the Cyclone Yaas, the sea water has increased by 2-4 feet height with strong wind from Tuesday morning. All the makeshift shops at the Kuakata sea beach have been removed.
Kuakata municipality mayor Anwar Hossain Howlader said more than 50 dried fish and food shops, tourist police camp and municipality`s public toilets were badly affected by gushing tidal waves in the morning.
Shawkat Hossain Biswas of Dhulashar union parishad under Kolapara upazila, adjacent to Kuakata, said 11 villages including Lalua, Pasarbunia, Charipara and Naoapara were flooded by the gushing water entering through a breached embankment at Charipara-Naoapara situated near the sea.
Rintu Talukder, chairman of the nearby Champapur union parishad, said two villages were inundated by the gushing water breaching the 30-meter embankment at Debpur point.
Abdul Jalil Akand, chairman of Dhulashar union parishad, said more than 100 houses and 50 fish enclosures at Gangamoti, Char Gangamoti, Kawar Char and Char Dhulashar under his union were inundated due to lack of embankment.
Bangladesh Water Development Board`s Kalapara branch official Mizanur Rahman said Lalua-Charipara Embankment has remained damaged since 2010. Besides, some some 1.5 kilometers of Debpur Embankment have remained damaged.
Patuakhali`s Rangabali upzila nirbahi officer Mashfaqur Rahman said seven to eight villages of Char Anda and Bailabunia in Char Montaj union have been flooded by tidal surges. Tidal waters have also entered Golachipa municipal town.
Municipal mayor Ahsanul Huque Tuhin said Ward No. 1 and Aratdar Patti, Kolatala, and Bangabandhu satellite town have also been flooded by tidal surges.
Meanwhile, eight villages including Koralia, Hajirkhal, Baratengra, Char Lathimara, Badurtala, Harinaghata and Jintala under Patharghata upazila in Barguna district on the Bishkhali-Baleshwar rivers have been flooded by tiday surges entering throught the damaged embankment at Padma-Ruhita areas.
Patharghata sadar union parishad chairman Md Asaduzzaman said crops have been damaged due to entry of gushing water in the villages.
