  Date : 19-04-2024

International DeskMohammad Amir alias Balbir Singh, who had converted to Islam after taking part in the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, has died under suspicious circumstances. His putrefying body was recovered by police from his residence at the Hafiz Baba Nagar area of the old city.

Local people had informed the police that a strong foul smell was emanating from his rented house in Baba Nagar. A team of Kanchanbagh police reached his residence and discovered the body in an advanced stage of decay.

Inspector J Venkat Reddy of Kanchanbagh police station said, "The exact cause of death is not yet known. If we get any complaint from family members regarding suspicion about the cause of his death, the police will proceed for postmortem and register a case."

Balbir Singh was a kar sevak who later had a change of heart and embraced Islam and assumed a new name, Mohammad Amir. He also participated in rebuilding 100 mosques that were in a bad shape or were being constructed or restored. To repent for his past deeds, he took a pledge to protect mosques and so far has taken part in the construction of 91 mosques.

Mohammad Amir was living in a rented house in Hafiz Baba Nagar C Block of Kanchanbagh police station area. He was building his 59th mosque in Hyderabad, which has been named `Masjid-e-Rahmiya`.

He had laid the foundation of this mosque on  December 6, 2019, the anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid.

Since then the construction work is going on. Locals are offering namaz in the temporary shade in the area.

It’s interesting to note that as akar sevak involved in the demolition of Babri masjid, he was greeted by the public and given a rousing reception. However, his family condemned his actions as a result of which he felt guilty.

Later, when he fell ill he consulted Maulana Kalim Siddiqui in Muzaffarnagar, UP for spiritual healing. He told him about his past and admitted he has been troubled by it and wanted to do penance.

A few years later, he accepted Islam sitting in front of Maulana Kalim Siddiqui. He also decided to build and protect 100 mosques. He built the first mosque in Haryana and has so far completed the construction of 91 mosques during 26 years.
