We have to work towards building a democratic Bangladesh: Mirza Fakhrul
  Date : 21-03-2025

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged all to work towards building a democratic Bangladesh, reports BSS.

He made the call while speaking at an Iftar mahfil, organized by BNP in honor of professionals at the Ladies Club in the capital.

The BNP secretary general said, “We are going through a very difficult time at the moment. You all know that an interim government has been formed by defeating and expelling a terrible fascist government through a student uprising. After that, a new democratic government will be formed, the people of this country are waiting for that."

Calling on the party leaders and activists, the BNP secretary general said everyone should play their role with great awareness and caution.
“Especially those of us, who are associated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, let us not take any steps that can lead us in the wrong direction."

“We will play our role responsibly. All those who are involved in politics or are involved with the people in various ways, will speak and work in a way that will pave the way for the transition to democracy," he said.

Regarding reforms, Mirza Fakhrul said, “You all know that the state system is collapsing due to reforms.”

"That is why we presented a 31-point programme of state reforms to the people about two years ago. We think that the words of our reforms in that programme are enough for the country to change," he said.

He said, the interim government has formed a reform commission.
"We are in full contact with them and we are monitoring their proposals and giving our opinions accordingly," he said.

BNP Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salah Uddin Ahmed, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Vice Chairperson Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Advocate Zainul Abedin, Advisor Dr. Farhad Halim Doner, among others, also spoke.

Among the professionals who participated in the iftar were Jai Jai Din Editor Shafik Rehman, National Press Club President and Kaler Kantho Editor Poet Hasan Hafiz, economist Mahbub Ullah, Jugantor Editor Poet Abdul Hai Sikder, senior Journalists M Aziz, Abdal Ahmed, actor Ilias Kanchan, among others.
