Dhaka University (DU) authorities promptly removed controversial banners displaying convicted war criminals following fierce student protests that erupted across campus.
On Tuesday, Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir`s DU unit had sparked widespread anger by featuring anti-liberation figures whilst marking `Anti-Autocracy Day`.Wheat import
Progressive Student Alliance members and general students gathered at TSC, chanting powerful slogans including "My land, my mother, never for war criminals" and "No place for Rajakars (collaborators) in Bangladesh of `71".
Their unified voice declared `Autocrats and Rajakars are two sides of the same coin`, demonstrating zero tolerance for honouring figures who betrayed the nation`s liberation struggle.
Assistant Proctor Associate Professor Rafiqul Islam swiftly intervened, personally removing the offensive displays and transporting them to the proctor`s office. DU Shibir leader Mazharul Islam cooperated fully with removal requests, defusing tensions effectively.Wheat import
"A group of our students brought this to our attention. We spoke with Shibir members and they cooperated in removing the images," confirmed Assistant Proctor Islam.
Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed acknowledged the administration`s initial unawareness, stating: "We were not aware they would do this. As soon as it came to our notice, I contacted Shibir and sent the Assistant Proctor to handle the matter."
The swift resolution demonstrated responsive university governance whilst respecting student concerns about preserving Bangladesh`s liberation legacy.
