3 held for robbery in Khulna
  Date : 01-11-2025

Police arrested three people on Saturday, including two women, on charges of robbing a house in Khulna city after posing as tenants.

The arrestees were identified as Arif Hasan Russell, 29, son of Amir Ali of Krishnanagar village in Bagerhat Sadar; Maria Akter Munni, 19, daughter of Shahadat Hossain of Bisharighata village in Morrelganj upazila; and Koli Pande, 45, wife of Sanjit Roy of Dauniyafad village under Jalma union in Batiaghata upazila.

All three had been living in the Glaxo Mosque Lane area of Khulna city.

According to police, the incident took place last Thursday at the home of Chayan Kumar Mondol on B.K. Main Road in the Purba Baniakhama area under Khulna Sadar Police Station.

The suspects allegedly tied up a housewife and looted gold ornaments and cash worth Tk 1.82 lakh from her residence.

Following a case filed by the house owner last Friday, police reviewed CCTV footage and conducted a swift operation.

A team from Sadar Police Station arrested the trio from the Glaxo Moor Mosque Lane area on Khan Jahan Ali Road.

Briefing reporters at Khulna Sadar Police Station, Khulna Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (South) Sudarshan Kumar Roy said the robbers had contacted the victim through a Facebook group named `Houses for Rent in Khulna`, using a fake profile under the name "Umme Muna".

When the house owner was unavailable, he asked his wife, Pratima Mondol, to show the house to the supposed tenants. The suspects then carried out the assault and robbery.

Police recovered the imitation pistol, three smartphones, a cap, two pairs of sandals, a set of headscarves and Tk 2,000 in cash from their possession.
