International Desk: On Thursday, January 8, Wang Yi, member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and China’s Foreign Minister, met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Abiy described China as a trusted and close brother and a strategic partner of Ethiopia. He highlighted that the two countries have long supported each other, resulting in strong bilateral relations. Ethiopia praised China’s long-term support for the country’s economic and social development, as well as its efforts to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). Ethiopia reiterated its commitment to the One-China policy and expressed willingness to work with China to further advance bilateral relations.

Responding, Wang Yi emphasized China’s commitment to implement the consensus achieved by the leaders of both countries, provide strong mutual support, strengthen alignment of development strategies, and deepen exchanges in governance experience.

Wang also noted that Ethiopia is at the forefront of China–Africa cooperation. Both sides should work together to implement the Beijing Summit decisions, fully utilize the benefits of China’s zero-tariff policy for African nations, and continue high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and Africa.

Finally, Wang Yi stated that China is keen to further strengthen cooperation with Ethiopia in promoting regional peace, stability, and mutually beneficial development.
