Daylong hartal being observed in Noakhali`s Companyganj

Online Desk : A daylong hartal is being observed in Noakhali`s Companyganj upazila on Saturday following Friday`s clash between two rival groups of local Awami League at Chaprashirhat Bazar that left 50 people injured.

All the shops in Basurhat Pourasava remained shut from the morning.

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader`s younger brother Abdul Quader Mirza, who is also the Basurhat Pourasava mayor, and Companyganj Upazila Awami League organising secretary Mizanur Rahman Badal, called the shutdown around 9:30pm on Friday.

The clash broke out between two rival groups of local Awami League at Chaprashirhat Bazar around 4:45pm on Friday in front of the Awami League office at Chaprashirhat Purbo Bazar.

In order to bring the situation under control, police charged batons, fired blank shots and lobbed teargas shells on the people locked in the clash.
