Dhaka tastes first defeat against Chattogram
  Date : 06-05-2024

Chattogram Challengers registered their second win in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League after they beat Durdanto Dhaka by six wickets during their third match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.

Chattogram bowlers set up the victory for their side as they restricted Dhaka to 136-8 in 20 overs after they sent the capital city team to bat first.

Dhaka’s Lasith Croospulle, who came as a concussion replacement of his Sri Lankan compatriot Danushka Gunathilaka, made the highest 46 off 31 balls while he also shared a 73-run stand with Irfan Shukkur (27) after they were reduced to 33-4 in the eighth over.

Gunathilaka was hit on his cheek off pace Al-Amin Hossain’s bowling during the second over the Dhaka innings and later, he needed 22 stitches when he was taken to Evercare Hospital.

The partnership between Croospulle and Irfan came to an end when Curtis Campher removed the former in the 16th over and after his dismissal, the remaining batters failed to accelerate the innings in the slog overs forcing them to remain content with a mediocre total.

Al-Amin and Bilal Khan claimed two wickets for Chattogram.

Chattogram, in reply, got off to a rollicking start as they scored 19 runs in the first five deliveries before Dhaka pacer Shoriful Islam removed Avishka Fernando for 12.

Shoriful then dismissed Imran Uzzaman (one) in his next over to reduce Chattogram to 28-2 but Tanzid Hasan Tamim (49) and Shahadat Hossain Dipu (22) shared 53 runs for the third wicket to regain their control in the match.

Najibullah Zadran then made an unbeaten 32 off 19 balls which included two successive sixes from Chaturanga de Silva’s bowling to take Chattogram to 137-4 in 18.2 overs to hand Dhaka their first defeat in the ongoing tournament.
