Drive against chemical warehouses in ‘Old Dhaka’ after Eid: Mayor
  Date : 02-04-2024

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said combing operations will be launched against illegal chemical warehouses across old Dhaka following the celebration of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

He was addressing a programme titled `Impact of Traffic Congestion on Trade and Commerce of Old Dhaka and Identification of Passage Ways`.

The event was organized by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) at their office auditorium in the capital.

DCCI President Ashraf Ahmed presided over the event.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Mohammad Munibur Rahman, Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) Director Neelima Akhter among others present in the event.

The mayor said, “The license has been canceled so that there is no chemical warehouse in the residential area of Old Dhaka. Still, warehouses were made in Old town with licenses from different places. After Eid we will not give any more time.”

He said scattered bus counters are one of the causes of traffic congestion in the old city.

“All Syedabad based buses will have counters inside the terminal. If someone wants to counter outside the terminal, they have to go outside Dhaka, traffic jams cannot be allowed because of the counter,” he added.
