3 die as truck hits auto-rickshaw in Sherpur

Three people were killed and three others injured when a cargo truck ran over a battery-powered easy bike on their way home after the funeral of a relative in Sherpur`s Nakla upazila on Tuesday.

The accident took place around 9 pm in Gorergao area under Nakla upazila on the Dhaka-Sherpur regional highway.

The dead were Zabeda Khatun, 70, Abeda Khatun, 50, residents of Poragao area under Nalitabari upazila, and Raja Mia, 55, of Malizhikanda area under Jhenaigati upazila.

According to police and locals, the six people were returning home by a battery-powered auto-rickshaw after the funeral of a relative in Mymensingh`s Phulpur. On the way, when they reached in that area, a Dhaka-bound cargo truck ran over the vehicle. Zabeda Khatun and Raja Mia died on the spot while four others were injured.


The injured were rescued and taken to Nakla Upazila Health Complex from there they were referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital but Abeda Khatun died on the way.

Nakla Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Quader Mia confirmed it.
