Two cousins drown in Jhalakathi pond

Two children drowned in a water-body at Keura union of Jhalakathi district on Saturday morning.

The incident took at around 9am in South Piplita village under the union.

The deceased were identified as Mohibullah, 4, son of Mijanur Rahman, and his nine-year-old cousin Suraiya Akter, who was handicapped and daughter of Shahidul Islam, both were residents of the same village.

According to locals, the incident occurred when Mohibullah slipped into the water while crossing a makeshift bridge. Seeing this, Suraiya Akter jumped in to rescue him, but they both drowned.


Locals quickly rescued them and took them to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital from there, they were transferred to Barisal where the on-duty doctor at the emergency department declared them dead upon arrival.
