Diamond World MD Dilip Agarwala sent to jail after remand
  Date : 17-09-2024

A Dhaka court today (Sept 7) sent Diamond World`s Managing Director (MD) Dilip Kumar Agarwala to jail in the case filed over the shooting and killing of a BNP activist during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Following a hearing on Saturday, Dhaka`s Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroze Tithi passed the order.

Assistant GR Officer of Badda Police Station, SM Zahirul Islam confirmed that Agarwala was produced before the court following the completion of his remand.

During the hearing, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Sadek appealed that Agarwala be held in jail until the investigation is complete.

He stated that intensive interrogation had yielded some crucial information regarding the case, which necessitated further verification of the suspect`s details for a thorough investigation.

The court heard that releasing Agarwala on bail might lead to him absconding and potentially obstructing the ongoing investigation. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court declined the bail request and ordered that Agarwala be kept in custody.

Agarwala was initially arrested by RAB-1 on 3 September from Dhaka`s Gulshan. The following day, the court approved a three-day remand.

This case pertains to the killing of Hriday Ahmed, a BNP worker who was shot during an anti-discrimination protest on 19 July.

A murder charge was filed on 22 August by Shahadat Hossain, Joint Secretary of BNP in Shibchar of Madaripur, implicating 161 individuals including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and Dilip Kumar Agarwala.
